MY BEAUTY FAVES :: Scalp Health

Good hair starts with a healthy scalp.  It's as simple as that.  And yet, it's easy to neglect our scalp.  There's just not enough time.  We have learned to depend on a lot of styling products that we apply daily and mostly favor dry shampoo because it's more time-efficient.  Eventually, it's hard to avoid product build-up.
What makes the scalp so important?  Each hair grows from an individual follicle, a surface on our scalp.  Follicles produce sebum or oil.  The oil is essential for the health of the scalp but can impact the quality of hair growth if there's too much of it and the follicle gets clogged up.  You also have to think of the cells on your scalp.  They are constantly dividing, just as we see on our skin.  Exfoliation helps remove these cells, thus helping keep your scalp clean too.

This summer I have been trying different ways to improve my scalp health.  I worked on DIY scalp scrub recipes and looked around for a salt shampoo to make the whole process more efficient.  I found this one on Amazon and was instantly intrigued.  I love how clean the formula is.  It doesn't even have a fragrance which is almost impossible to accomplish with hair products.  The salt helps detoxify the scalp and gets rid of any product build-up.  I use it once a week and work it into my scalp with this scalp massage tool.  You won't see the lather until you rinse so don't use too much product!  My hair is squeaky clean after I rinse.  I follow with my usual conditioner and I have noticed it's easier to style my hair after each treatment.

Adding scalp massage to your washing routine is also another good way to improve the health of your scalp. The massage helps stimulate blood flow to the scalp.   It is also thought to promote a good environment for hair growth.   It doesn't take long so it's worth trying!

Have you tried a salt scrub shampoo and/or a scalp massage?
