Exfoliation involves the removal of old skin cells on the outermost surface of our skin. As these old cells accumulate, they can leave our skin looking dull, rough and dry. In addition, this build-up can also clog our pores and lead to the dreaded blemishes.
There are two forms of exfoliation: physical (brushes, beads) and chemical (peels). Everybody's skin is different and you have to find what works for you. Keep in mind that any amount of exfoliation will help your skin. The nature and frequency of this exfoliation is also important to consider. As a former acne sufferer, I had developed this notion that frequent, vigorous exfoliation with harsh cleansers and brushes was just what my skin needed to stay clear. With time, I have learnt that less is more, at least in my case.
This nourishing cream exfoliator has been quite the discovery. I was used to the harsher exfoliating washes that leave your skin feeling tight, so the nourishing texture of this cleanser was unchartered territory for me. It contains jojoba beads to gently slough off dry, dull skin. The coconut oil and aloe in it are soothing and hydrating to the complexion. My skin does not feel tight after cleansing. Instead, it feels conditioned and is luminous. In addition, unlike other popular exfoliating cleansers in the market, this product does not contain any harmful chemicals so you have the added confidence that what you are applying to your skin is safe.
As far as frequency of application, I have been using this cleanser every other morning after applying the overnight resurfacing peel at night. I feel that these two products work really well together. Indeed, at my last facial, my aesthetician remarked that my skin looked much improved and asked me if I was using something new!
Have you tried Beautycounter's exfoliating cleanser? What are your thoughts?
