MY BEAUTY FAVES :: Adult Cystic Acne

Cystic acne can still be a thing in your 40s.  It's more spaced out and not all over my face any more but it's just as much of a nuisance as it used to be.  I have been on so many different regimens for my acne.  They all helped to some degree but now I chose to follow a more natural regimen.  Here's what's in my tool kit:

a)  Charcoal Cleansing Bar:  I cannot recommend this bar enough, specially if your skin is oily.  It has purifying charcoal to help draw impurities out of your pores and keep them clean.  It also contains coconut oil which is antibacterial and hydrating and antioxidant-rich green tea.  It is gentle enough to be used daily and will not dry you out.  Right now I use it at night time after I remove my make-up.

b)  Balancing Facial Mask:  I use this mask weekly.  It has been super helpful to balance out my skin.  It contains kaolin clay to help absorb extra oil from your skin which bacteria will thrive on and draw out impurities from your pores.  The activated charcoal in the formula helps to minimize the appearance of your pores and the salicylic acid is exfoliating which helps prevent the pores from clogging.  I have tried a lot of clay masks and this is the first that does not leave my skin all tight and dry after I use it.  I love how you can see the mask working on your pores too.  This mask can be pricey at $49, but I have had mine since August and I'm not even 50% of the way through the tube.  A little goes a long way.

c)  Countermatch Adaptive Moisture Lotion:  It took me a while to figure this one out.  Less is more when it comes to acne.  The gentler the moisturizer, the better.  And that means that you have to take a good look at the formula.  I have found that I am sensitive to components in skin care and make-up products which can make me break out.  This lotion is just what my skin needs right now because it has the right level of hydration and is non-irritating.

d)  Stainless Steel Ice Roller:  Have you tried an ice roller yet?  They feel amazing after you wash your face.  I use mine at night if I have any breakouts because it helps with the inflammation.  Once the cycle of cystic acne starts, you basically have pores that are both clogged and infected with bacteria.  Your body is trying to fight this off so you develop the redness and inflammation which is not something you want right on your face for everybody to see.  The ice is such a simple easy trick.  You just have to remember to be consistent and use it daily as soon as the bumps appear under your skin.  Keeping it clean is another must.

So there you go!  This is how I manage my cystic acne breakouts.  What have you tried?  Let me know in the comments below.
